The Bombay high court, while dictating an order on public interest litigations dealing with noise pollution in the state, has stated, “To curb noise pollution in the state of Maharashtra, the high court issued several interim orders from 2014. The orders were not only for one religion but they were also applicable for all religions.”
“We live in a secular country and we abide by the law of this country. Maharashtra has contributed to the building of the nation. Great philosophers and laureates were born in this state. The man who had written constitution of India was also born here but noise pollution rules and the Act have not been implemented effectively in this state,” said the high court.
Division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice A.A. Sayed said that the state was not completing its duties and, therefore, people were coming to court and filing petitions. Civic authorities that are supposed to implement the rules are not supported by political bosses, which hampers effective implementation, it noted.
Meanwhile the court asked the state to reply to a query as to whether or not it had provided equipment for measuring noise to all police station.
