Now you will be able to enter and exit at the northern end of the city without paying a toll. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed to construct a missing link road between Dahisar and Bhayandar which will bring down the 10-km-long traverse through the existing Western Express Highway (WEH).

The 5-km-long missing road will start from the link road in Dahisar (west) and will go up to Bhayandar (west). The proposed stretch will help motorists join the proposed 5.3-km-long Bhayandar-Naigaon sea-link that is planned all the way up to the existing Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway (NH)-8.

The MMRDA has already floated bids and is in the process of appointing a consultant to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed link.

“The initial plan is to construct the link starting from link road in Dahisar (west) on the stilts further connecting it with Bhayandar (west) on Uttan Road. The reason behind choosing stilts is owing to the alignment passing through dense mangroves for which clearances from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) and the Union environment ministry will be required, considering that the alignment falls under Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) I and II,” said an MMRDA official. The link is expected to decongest vehicular traffic at the Dahisar toll naka that is jam-packed during peak hours owing to the heavy vehicles entering and exiting the city from Gujarat and vice-versa.

Further, the proposed link will also facilitate a toll-free ride, proving especially beneficial to vehicles heading towards Water Kingdom and Essel World in Borivali and the Aranala beach in Virar.

“To handle the traffic flow out from this missing link, the internal roads of the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) will also have to be widened to avoid bottlenecks after the construction of the proposed link,” added the MMRDA official.
