Senior NCP leader and former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, Chhagan Bhujbal, who has been undergoing treatment at the state-run St .George Hospital, was discharged on Monday but will be back for his dental treatment. For his shrunken kidney however, doctors clarified that Bhujbal does not need any surgery.
Superintendent of St George Hospital, Dr Jagdish Bhawani, said, “He went for dental treatment on Monday. He was breathless as he suffers from asthma but he is stable. So, after observing his health condition, we discharged him. In future if he needs any further treatment, we will let him go to J.J. Hospital.”
Dean of the dental department, Dr Mansingh Pawar, said, “Mr Bhujbal requires a root canal for which, he needs to come again for further treatment. He is already diabetic and has too many health complications.”
Since the time of his arrest in March this year, Bhujbal has been complaining of ill health. He has lost 10 kg since his arrest. A recent picture of him sitting in a hospital chair in a white apron has gone viral on social media, once again raising questions about his health. The CT scan conducted at J.J. Hospital on Saturday showed that his right-side kidney has shrunken while his left-side kidney appears normal. Dr Bhawani, who is a senior urologist, said that it is normal and Bhujbal doesn’t require any surgery. Medicines have also been given for the senior leader’s enlarged prostate.
On March 31, the special court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act cases in Mumbai extended Bhujbal’s judicial custody till April 27.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed two FIRs against Bhujbal, his family members and others under money laundering laws, based on FIRs filed by the state Anti-Corruption Bureau, to probe alleged irregularities in the construction of the state guest house ‘Maharashtra Sadan’ in Delhi and the Kalina land-grabbing case in Mumbai.
