The State Common Entrance Test Cell, which will be conducting the CET, has requisitioned science teachers to do supervision work on May 5, which some organisations feel could lead to malpractices as the CET papers will be objective type.

A teachers’ organisation has said that the decision should be cancelled and teachers from other faculties should be called for supervising the CET exams.

According to the Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers Organisation (MSFJCTO), the joint CET for admissions to medical and engineering courses to be held on May 5 will be objective type and students will have to choose answers from multiple options.

“As the questions are objective type the probability of malpractices is very high and hence the decision to requisition science teachers for supervision work is surprising,” said Mr Deshmukh.

He further added that the decision was also unexpected as in the past when CETs were held, supervisors were called from different faculties so that they did not get involved in the exams.

“The council should change its decision and ensure that the supervisors are a mix of teachers from different faculties,” said Mr Deshmukh. He further added that as per the norms supervisors had to be from faculties other than the subject and hence if the council did not turn back their decision they would be guilty of not following the norms themselves.

The MHT-CET for admission to medical and engineering courses will be held statewide on May 5 and will be conducted jointly with students appearing for the common paper in the first session followed by the biology paper for students aspiring to get admission in medical colleges.

The mathematics paper will be held in the afternoon session for students aspiring for admission to engineering colleges.
