A joint action plan for improving travelling experience will be made by the Indian Railways and the state government for the city in six-months, said Minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha on Friday.
Mr Sinha was speaking in Thane to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-years in office. “We realise that the suburban section of Mumbai faces a lot of problems and to overcome the same, a plan is being worked out by the state government and the Railways, which should be in place in the next fiveor six months,” he said.
Last time when Mr Sinha had come to the city in late 2014, he had spoken on the city’s need to decongest the local railways. Along with Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Mr Sinha participated in Vikas Parva, a programme organised by the BJP. Speaking on the delays of projects, he said, “We have not lost hope and we are still taking all efforts to overcome these hurdles and show some result through our work.”
With the recent conversion of both the Central Railways (CR) mainline and the Harbour line from Direct Current (DC) to Alternate Current (AC) the railways stand to save '140 crore in power bills. “Not only are we saving '140 crores after conversion but we are also looking into the possibility of lending wagons instead of an entire rake to the industries including those who are small scale,” he said.
