A few days after self-styled hacker Manish Bhangale approached the Bombay high court demanding a CBI enquiry into the matter, he has alleged that the newly appointed ATS chief Atul Chandra Kulkarni is trying to interfere in the investigation.

Mr Bhangale’s legal counsel has sent a legal notice to Mr Kulkarni who was the former joint commissioner of police (crime) and incidentally looking into whether revenue minister Eknath Khadse was indeed in touch with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, till he took charge at the ATS. This letter has been marked to the commissioner of police and the chief minister.

In the letter, Mr Bhangale stated that on Friday he approached the superintendent of police, Jalgaon, to seek protection.

Mr Bhangale had previously mentioned that he had received death threats from certain persons. “My family in Gujarat received threats and had to move overnight and I have also been receiving threats to my life from unknown persons,” Mr Bhangale had said. After the threats, Mr Bhangale had alleged there had been attempts to hack into his email account and the attempt had proven successful once, resulting in the deletion of one email.

After the hacker had claimed in April that call records of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited showed that Mr Khadse had been in touch with Dawood, Mr Kulkarni, who was then the head of the Mumbai crime branch, had headed the investigation.

Mr Bhangale claimed that till date, the crime branch has summoned him twice and it had asked him to explain the process by which he had obtained the data and also analyse the data gained.

Despite sending text message to Mr Kulkarni on the issue, he did not respond till the time of publication.
