NET admit card given on exam day
The University Grants Commission — National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) held on Sunday, June 28 across the country proved to be a nightmare for thousands of candidates as many of them got their admit cards only Sunday morning. To make matters worst, many were assigned centres far from homes.
According to a candidate who is a resident of Kandivali due to some technical problem, many were unable to download the admit card until Sunday morning. “The admit card also had details of the exam centre allotted and hence I had to rush to Thane where I was assigned the centre. It would not have been possible for me to make it to the exam centre at the stipulated start time of 9 am had it not been for my family who drove me there. However, I came to know later that many aspirants had reached late,” said the candidate who appeared for sociology subject.
When asked about the problem, Dr D Harichandan former co-ordinator for NET in Mumbai, said that as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was conducting the exam he was unaware of the problems being faced by the candidates. “Till the NET was being conducted by UGC, there were fixed co-ordinators for all cities; however it seems that no city co-ordinators have been appointed by CBSE,” said Dr Harichandan.
This is the second exam that has been conducted by the CBSE, the previous one being in December 2014. The exam consisted of three papers for candidates to qualify for the joint research fellowship and assistant professorship.
According to another candidate who managed to reach the center around 9.30 am while the exam schedule had asked candidates to visit exam centres a day before, it was not possible as he was able to download the admit card only Sunday morning. Many candidates who reached after the latest entry time of 9.30 am were not allowed in said another candidate.
CBSE officials were unavailable for comment on the incident.
