The Dindoshi police has arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly raping a mentally challenged woman (20) in Malad. The accused is the victim’s neighbour. According to the police, he raped the woman and then dropped her back at her home Friday evening. The alleged rape came to light after the woman told her family about it and they immediately approached the Dindoshi police station Friday night itself, the police said.
The police arrested the accused and produced him before a local court on Saturday. He has been remanded in police custody. The victim’s condition is stable, the police said.
The incident took place in the Malad (east) area on Friday night. According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Faruk Abdul Khan (27). He runs a scrap dealing business and owns a shop in the same area.
On Friday night at about 9 pm, the accused went to the victim’s home and asked her parents to let him take her to a local fair nearby. The parents happily allowed him as they knew Khan for a long time. However, according to the police complaint, Khan took the girl to an isolated place and sexually abused her there. Later, Khan dropped the woman at her home.
At home, the parents found the woman crying and asked her the reason. The woman then narrated the entire incident to them. The parents then approached the police, which arrested Khan within a few hours.
