BJP leader says Rajiv Gandhi was ‘good man’ as he opened up Ram Mandir
Asserting that intellectuals were pressurising the government against attacking Pakistan, BJP leader Subramanium Swamy termed the entire Nehru-Gandhi clan “illiterates”, the late PM Rajiv Gandhi as a “good man”, who opened up the Ram Mandir and former PM Manmohan Singh as a “tamed lion”. He was speaking at a lecture organised by a local library in Nashik on Sunday. Mr Swamy spoke on a wide range of issues and called upon all to rewrite Indian history as the real Indian heroes in history had been neglected.
The policices of the Modi government are proper but there is pressure from intellectuals, foreign service and others against taking action against Pakistan. He also questioned the benefits of some people behind Mahatma Gandhi’s murder. “We know that it was Nathuram Godse, who killed Gandhi. But Nehru derived the greatest benefit. When the Congress party met to decide the PM, there were 14 votes in favour of Sardar Vallahabhai Patel. Only one vote of Acharya Kirpalani went in favour of late Jawaharlal Nehru. That too, because Gandhi requested him to do so or he (Gandhi) would lose face. Later, an anguished Gandhi told Patel, he would give him his due but was murdered,” said Mr Swamy.
He also said, “Jawaharlal had failed then how is called a ‘pandit’ In England, the then universities didn’t put a fail mark on the certificates but used an euphemism as ‘Gentleman Pass’. However, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who got a PhD in economics, is not called a ‘pandit’. Dr Ambedkar had advocated separate states for Hindus and Muslims, but the suggestion was vetoed by Nehru. Indira Gandhi too was illiterate and could not understand my report on economic development and got me debarred from my professorship. Rajiv Gandhi was a good man, who married the wrong woman, a fifth grade pass. Rajiv Gandhi opened up the Ram Mandir but he too had failed in studies.”
Mr Swamy said that Shivaji Maharaj’s influence spread throughout the country as he fought against Mughals. “Only due to a small mistake, if the British would not have come, Marathas would have subdued the Mughals and would have ruled India,” he said. “The Vijaynagar empire ruled for 300 years and had more land than the Moguls,” he said.
Speaking on actor Aamir Khan, Mr Swami reiterated his claim that, the actor received help for his film PK from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He also said times were changing and women should be allowed in mandirs for darshan. This is our culture, he said.
