Two days after AAP’s face in Maharashtra, Mayank Gandhi, resigned from the National Executive, senior leaders here have appealed to the party high command to introspect on the “high-handed” working style of the “Delhi gang” which is “ruining” the party and take immediate “course correction” to restore AAP’s lost glory.

AAP’s state unit was disbanded last month as part of the party’s effort to restructure and strengthen the unit; a move which triggered sharp reaction from Mr Gandhi who at the time said that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was playing “gutter politics”.

Senior leader in the state Ravi Srivastava said, “When an activist like Mr Gandhi loses interest in politics, it is really disheartening and the party should take immediate course correction. Now, Delhi MLAs have been entrusted the job of looking after daily affairs of the state despite the fact that they are unaware of local issues of Maharashtra.”

The only two members in the National Executive from Maharashtra have resigned, alleging the party’s “high-handedness”.

Sundar Balakrishnan, who lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai South Central, said, “Mr Gandhi was the unanimous super team leader who was doing an excellent job in the state. Both transformed the party by executing Mission Vistar and Mission Buniyad, setting up an anti-corruption helpline, and organising Shetkari yatras but unfortunately both had to resign from their posts.”
