In a meeting held in the city on Wednesday in the presence of party chief Sharad Pawar, probable issues were discussed. However, issues such as farmers’ suicides and power tariff in Mumbai have already been hijacked by the Congress.
The meeting of NCP’s think tank was held at YB Chavan Pratishthan with almost all senior leaders present. According to state chief of the party, Sunil Tatkare, issues which have to be raised in future against the state government were discussed during the meeting.
“We have to plan for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections but we don’t have any strategy and neither was it discussed in the meeting,” said a party leader associated with the Mumbai NCP unit. “I suggested that the Mumbai President of NCP, Sachin Ahir, delegate responsibility to some of the leaders who will expose corruption in specific sectors. It should be on the lines of BJP which has a team of Kirit Somaiya, Subramaniam Swamy and a few others who have specifically worked on various scams,” he added. “We expect that our leaders should not interrupt us, but unfortunately, everybody is busy making their own career,” he rued.
Meanwhile, Mr Tatkare said, “Mr Pawar has taken a ground reality report from party leaders and discussed how to plan a strategy against the state government which has failed in each and every sector. It has been decided to appoint a senior party leader as guardian of 60 party districts. These leaders will visit their respective districts once every week and interact with people.”
The NCP has divided the Maharashtra Assembly constituencies into 60 functional districts for smooth working. “We will focus on farmers’ issue, corruption, failure to tackle drought, power tariff and others during our campaign,” he said.
Another party leader said that while they were busy planning, power tariff in Mumbai and farmers’ suicide issues were hijacked by the Congress.
