A 33-year-old farmer-shepherd allegedly committed suicide along with his two children owing to debt in Malgaon village in Satana taluka of the district. Though the deaths occurred three days ago, a case of suicide was registered Friday evening when the bodies were found, the police said.
The police said that some farmers observed the bodies of the two children floating in Talwade lake in the village. They informed the Vadner Khakurdi police and the sarpanch of Malgaon village.
The police then rushed to the spot and, with the help of locals, extricated the bodies. It later came to light that three days ago Prakash Bapu Ftangade (33) had committed suicide along with his two children by jumping into the Talwade lake.
Sources said that Prakash along with his daughter Dhanshri (4) and son Hemant (2) had gone on his motorcycle. He parked his motorcycle near the Talwade lake and then, along with his children, jumped into the lake.
Prakash had taken loans for farming and sheep rearing and was unable to pay the instalments. Prakash’s wife Shaila said that Prakash and the two children were as missing since the last three days. The police has registered a case of sudden death, and further investigations are on.
This is the seventh case of suicide in a fortnight in Nashik.
