Murdered artist’s family demands CBI inquiry
Relatives of artist Hema Upadhyay have demanded a CBI inquiry in the double murder case. According to them, Hema’s husband Chintan used to find pleasure in inflicting pain on Hema and around a day before the murder, he uploaded a song Alvida on his timeline, so he cannot be granted a clean chit. The relatives also allege that Chintan would often humiliate Hema in front of his friends.
According to police sources, they have made three teams to search for the main accused, Vidhyadhar Rajbhar, while the tempo in which the bodies were dumped has been recovered. Officials are now focusing on questioning the four accused who are in their custody, to get some headway about the whereabouts of Vidhyadhar.
They have prepared a list of 40 questions which they are planning to ask all the accused separately. The officials are currently looking for Vidhyadhar in Madhya Pradesh. On the second day of murder, Vidhyadhar had called up his neighbour from whom he borrowed money and at that point of time, his mobile tower location was of Madhya Pradesh.
Hema’s family is claiming that police’s investigation is heading in the wrong direction. According to one of Hema’s cousins, Deepak Prasad, Hema was an internationally renowned artist, while her husband Chintan was not that popular and he was frustrated over this. He used to feel jealous over the achievements of his wife, said the cousin. According to Mr Prasad, Chintan always used to feel happy in torturing her.
Speaking about the ways that Chintan would humiliate and harass Hema, Mr Prasad said that Chintan had once insulted her when there were going to a show in Wadala by asking her to get out of the car mid route. Also, when Hema returned home, he kicked her on the back while she was eating on a side of bed with Chintan was lying on the other side. He had also served a divorce notice to Hema on their wedding anniversary on October 31, 2009.
Hema’s cousin also said that Hema had not been dealing with Vidhyadhar for the last one and a half years. Two years ago Hema had given Rs 2 lakh to Vidhyadahar to help him financially, and about 15 days before the murder, he had visited Hema’s Lokhandawala-based studio to return Rs10,000. But Hema asked him to leave. Mr Prasad has rejected claims that Hema had asked Vidhyadahar for money.
Later, right before the incident he called Hema and told her that he could help her in her divorce case by providing her documents against her husband so she visited his warehouse along with her lawyer, said Mr Prasad.
