Mumbai University not paying dues, claim teachers
Even as the University of Mumbai blames teachers for not taking up assessment work of exam answer sheets, teachers and professors have revealed that the university has not been paying them their dues

Even as the University of Mumbai blames teachers for not taking up assessment work of exam answer sheets, teachers and professors have revealed that the university has not been paying them their dues regularly. In fact, they claimed that the payment for the assessment work done in November last year is still pending and hence they are reluctant to take up assessment work for future exams.
After being severely criticised for delaying the declaration of exam results, MU shifted the blame on teachers saying that the delay was a result of teachers not turning up for assessment work. However, when asked about it, the teachers while confirming their reluctance to assess papers said it was not out of lethargy but due to the fact that the university was not paying them their dues on time.
“Previously the university was prompt in making the payments and used to make the payments at the end of the day. But since the past one year, it has been delaying the payments and in fact has not paid our dues for the assessment work we did in November last year,” said a teacher from the commerce stream.
Adding that the delay in the results of some streams like law and technology was due to paucity of teachers to assess papers, there was no such problem in the arts, commerce and science streams but by not paying teachers their dues, the university was creating a problem. “The workload on teachers doing assessment work for the arts, science and commerce streams is also high but still the teachers are reporting for assessment work at the central assessment programme (CAP) centres. But by not paying dues on time the university is creating animosity in the minds of the teachers due to which they are reluctant to take up assessment work for future exams,” said the teacher.
However, Deepak Wasave, in-charge Controller of Examination, MU said that teachers had been paid their dues but when confronted with the fact that teachers claimed that they were forced to sign the payment received invoices without being paid, he said he would look into the issue and get it sorted out.
