Mumbai University information kiosks not functional, say students

The information kiosks that were installed amid much fanfare by Mumbai University in 2014 are non-functional, some students have alleged.

These students have alleged that internet-enabled kiosks that were installed at Fort campus of the university, examination section and institute of distance and open learning are non-functional and lying unused.

Five kiosks were installed in 2014 for students who did not have access to the internet and could not check the university website for information. These kiosks also had the facility to view the campus layout for better navigation.

“I had visited the Fort campus on Thursday and found that the kiosk was not functional. When I enquired with the officials there, I was told that it was temporarily out of service,” said a student requesting anonymity.

The public relations officer of MU, however, said that the machines had been out-of-service for technical reasons.

“The machines were installed for the benefit of students and due to some technical problems, they are out-of-service. The university has however informed the vendor about the same and the kiosks will be made operational from Friday itself,” said Leeladhar Bansod, deputy registrar (public relations), MU.
