The air-conditioned train that runs on Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) electricals will be fitted with other electrical add-ons on Wednesday. Many of these fittings were not added to it after Union minister Suresh Prabhu admonished the officials for delaying the train by a day.
Officials from the BHEL will visit the Kurla car-shed, which is close to Vidyavihar station on the mainline and add the electricals. “The officials from BHEL are coming down to fix the additional fittings as the minister had demanded that the train be dispatched as soon as possible. This might take a good three to four days and only then will we be able to run the trials for it,” said a senior official on condition of anonymity.
CR is trying to convert the Harbour line to Alternate Current by Sunday, as it is a long weekend owing to the holiday Gudi Padwa holiday on Friday.
Salient features The air-conditioned train is designed in a way so as to ensure that there is enough leg room between seats. The vestibule between coaches allows one to walk down six coaches at a time. The 12-coach train is divided by the motor in the middle.
Although the side handles at the entrance of the train will not be ideal for Mumbaikars, railway officials have said that commuters will have ample time to get in and out of the train at peak-hours.
