The Mumbai police has started a new campaign on its Twitter account to alert citizens about cyber crimes and tell them to follow traffic rules.
The campaign uses the hashtag ‘DontBeAFool’. Citizens have appreciated the initiative, and the police received more than 20 cyber crime complaints after it started the campaign, said officials.
The police’s posts on cyber crime on the commissioner of police and the department’s social media account, @MumbaiPolice and @CPMumbaiPolice, feature one-liners, explaining to citizens that they should not fall for or indulge in such activities for the sake of earning easy money. Some of their posts are, ‘Sharing your debit/credit card ‘pin’ will ‘prick’ you bad. #DontBeAFool, Winning a lottery on an sms may sound cool, Open your eyes #DontBeAFool’.
“After posting these messages on Twitter, we have received more than 20 complaints,” said an officer from cyber crime cell. Speaking about complaints received recently, he said, “The investigation of complaints has already started and more complaints coming in.”
Other than cyber crime, the Mumbai police’s Twitter handle also posts messages about the importance of following traffic rules such as “I just had one peg yaar!”
