The Make In India event is going to result in a business boom for Mumbai, as Hindustan Petroleum (HP) will sign an MoU of Rs 1.5 lakh crore for starting another refinery in Mumbai’s coastal area. The MoU will be signed during the week-long programme along with other MoUs including affordable housing, Mhada redevelopment, uninterrupted power supply for Mumbai suburbs among others. Also, putting an end to speculation about the presence of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for the event, the government has decided to conclude a session on Mumbai in his presence on February 15. Uddhav is also participating on Maharashtra Summit Day, when the state will have all the business-related programmes.

“We have lots of things specifically for Mumbai apart from Maharashtra. The most important MoU will be with HP, which will be starting a project in the coastal area of the city. We have MoUs for affordable housing and Mhada redevelopment. We have to create about 10 lakh houses in next four years. We are also trying to reduce the time period required for permissions from four years to one year. This is a tough job but we want to make it easy for the businessmen interested in investing in housing,” an official from the CMO said. On availability of land for the affordable houses, the official said that it would be made available in suburbs.

Also, the government singing MoUs in the power generation sector so that the city and suburbs will have uninterrupted power supply, the official said. “For Maharashtra we are focussing on our strengths like textiles, agriculture products and automobile sectors,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CMO also said that Uddhav Thackeray would be attending the event putting an end to speculations about his absence in the programme. “Uddhav Thackeray will conclude the Make in Mumbai discussion on February 15. He will also remain present during Maharashtra Rajni, a cultural programme to be held at Girgaum Chowpatty on February 14. He has also confirmed that he will visit Maharashtra’s exhibition gallery at the BKC Grounds on February 15,” the CMO said.
