The Mumbai police has beefed up security at check posts and announced an alert in the city after Delhi police warned about three heavily armed Pakistani terrorists likely to be suicide bombers targeting three cities, including Mumbai.

Both Mumbai police and Thane police confirmed that they have ramped up security at every check post while the port zone has alerted all extra forces after coming to know about the three terrorists. Police officials said they have initiated strict checking of vehicles and are keeping an eye on security of vital installations like police buildings and defence establishments as also religious places and markets. However, they did not reveal the major sensitive areas in the cit1y for security purposes and maintaining peace in the city.

Navi Mumbai police, including traffic police, has raised the number of check posts near Mumbai-Goa highway as well as secret spots. Sources said the terrorists are travelling from Jammu and Kashmir in a grey Swift Dzire car along with a local resident, and are expected to cross the Banihal tunnel later tonight. As per the alert, their target could be in Delhi, Mumbai and Goa.

Meanwhile, Punjab, which has witnessed two terror attacks in less than six months, was on Wednesday put on high alert following inputs from Delhi police warning about entry of three heavily armed Pakistani terrorists who might be suicide bombers.
