The Maharashtra State Shiksha Bachao Action Committee (MSSBAC) has withdrawn its decision to embark upon an indefinite shutdown of all schools in the state from July 15 after education minister Vinod Tawde assured them of looking into their complaints and demands and settling issues amicably. The decision to withdraw the agitation was taken after members of the committee who met Mr Tawde on Thursday were satisfied by his assurances.

The MSSBAC that consists of elected representatives, principals and managements of various private schools in the state had announced that they would be shutting down all schools indefinitely from July 15 as the government had failed to address various issues related to financial aid and it was becoming difficult for schools to continue operations.

Representatives of MSSBAC including chairman Naval Patil, MLC’s Nago Ganaar and Ramnath Mote apprised Mr Tawde of the problems they faced like approval, providing mid-day meals in private schools on the lines of government schools, approval for teacher appointments, and subsidising charges the schools paid for electricity, among others. Mr Tawde assured the MSSBAC representatives that the government would look into the issues.
