The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has floated tenders for appointing a consultancy firm to develop telecom infrastructure on flyovers, roads and land parcels within the body’s jurisdiction.
“Currently, there are no set rules and no clarity about the rules of installing telecom towers and by appointing consultants we anticipate framing a set of rules and also generate a set amount of revenue which can be invested for the maintenance of our projects,” said a MSRDC official.
The role of consultants will be to design a set of rules keeping in mind the rules stipulated by the Union department of communications.
“There are cases where residential societies have denied giving spaces to telecom companies and by this move we expect to attract those telecom companies to our infrastructure projects,” added the MSRDC official.
Cash-strapped MSRDC is trying its best to utilise its resources to generate revenue for its major infrastructure projects. It is in talks with various international private and government agencies from Japan, China, Dubai and Malaysia for generating revenues for its ambitious Mumbai-Nagpur Super Expressway.
“Also, there are various flyovers and roads that already have developed infrastructure projects, but fresh tenders have been floated as the contracts of the older telecom companies will expire in the coming months,” added the MSRDC official.
However, this is the second time that the agency has floated tenders for appointing consultants for the project. Earlier, in November 2015, MSRDC had floated tenders, but did not receive any bids for the same.
