MSRDC submits proposal to state govt for palghar headquarters

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has submitted a proposal for construction of district headquarters in Palghar to the state government.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has submitted a proposal for construction of district headquarters in Palghar to the state government.

This move comes after the Maharashtra government last week decided to give a new look to the newly formed Palghar district by giving it a smart city’s features.

According to Radheshyam Mopalwar, managing director, MSRDC, “We have submitted the proposal for construction of district headquarters at Palghar which will include construction of the zilla parishad office, district collector, district court, police station and whatever the state government demands. We are hopeful about positive reply from the government on the same.

The Palghar district was bifurcated from Thane district in August 2014. Though the district comprises Palghar, Vasai, Virar, Vikramgad, Wada, Mokhada, Talasari and Dahahnu talukas, the region has no district headquarters, which consists of district courts, the collector’s office and other government offices.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, last week, had urged government officials to ensure that all department offices needed for functioning are made available in Palghar itself. Currently, almost all government offices are in Thane district and not Palghar. Mr Fadnavis has also sought a report from officials on the same.

A senior MSRDC official said, “We are very positive about the government accepting our proposal. To make Palghar a smart city, it obviously needs to have important government offices.”
