In a bid to cut costs and curb instances of paper leak, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has proposed to issue question paper cum answer sheet to students appearing for the SSC board exam from next year. This, according to board officials, is a practice that had been started by the board long time ago but was not implemented properly.
According to sources in the board, the initiative would be implemented in language papers. “In a recent meeting of board officials, it was decided that students needed some inspiration while writing the answers. Hence, it was proposed to include pictorial depiction of the questions whereever possible. This will not only allow the students to get an idea from the picture, but also allow them to use their creativity,” said the source.
Confirming this, Krishna Patil, secretary of MSBSHSE, Pune, said that the board had started printing such question papers long before other boards did so but it was discontinued. However, other boards took up the idea and have implemented it successfully, hence the board has decided to reintroduce the same,” said Mr Patil.
When asked about the costs involved, Mr Patil said that there would be no additional increase in the same.
On the question paper and answer paper being the same, he said that it was in the proposal stage and its advantages and disadvantages were being weighed and a decision would be taken later.
Meanwhile, Shikshak Bharati, a teachers’ organisation welcomed the move to have pictorial questions in the board question papers. “Many times students find it easier to understand questions that are shown in pictorial format. The decision is welcome and appreciated,” said Uday Nare, a spokesperson for Shikshak Bharati.
