In fresh trouble for minister of state for housing, Ravindra Waikar, Congress city president Sanjay Nirupam has claimed Mr Waikar’s wife, Manisha, and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s wife, Rashmi, jointly purchased a 25 acre land parcel worth Rs 125 crore in Raigad district.
While Mr Waikar has denied allegations, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, while shielding Mr Waikar, said every person had a right to do business.
Mr Nirupam, addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Nariman Point, on Tuesday, further alleged both Manisha Waikar and Rashmi Thackeray had also purchased land measuring 8.5 lakh square feet worth '900 crore. “The maternal uncle of Rashmi
Thackeray, Dilip Shrigarpure, and Mr Waikar are directors of Vijaylakshmi Infra LLP which was allotted a redevelopment project at Jogeshwari Caves by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA),” he said, adding the project had violated norms of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Mr Nirupam said he had documents in his possession to support his charge.
“I have the ‘7/12’ (land title document) papers which prove that the kin of Mr Thackeray and Mr Waikar are involved in amassing vast tracts of land in the Konkan region. They bought almost 110 acre land at Kolai village in Murud taluka in Raigad district,” he said.
He demanded that the “source of funding for purchasing the land” be probed. Stating he was not against anybody from the political class doing business or having personal ties, he said there was a “conflict of interest’ involved in this matter.
