After experiencing a prolonged dry spell, Mumbaikars are finally witnessing cloudy sky and light showers in different parts of the city. As weather experts have given the tentative date for the arrival of southwest monsoon as June 10, pre-monsoon showers are already keeping up the excitement. On overcast June 6, Indian Meteorological Department confirmed light rains and thunderstorms in next 48 hours.

As the residents of the city took to social media to post about the rainfalls in different parts of the city since June 1, only a couple of such pre-monsoon showers were witnessed in the month of May. With the weather department’s confirmation about the 110 per cent rain on peninsular region, Mumbai is slated to witness one of the highest rainfalls in the state, including Konkan region.

Minimum and maximum temperatures in Mumbai are likely to be around 28-34 degree Celsius as confirmed by the IMD officials.

“Light rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in parts of city and suburbs. The sky will remain cloudy for next 48 hours,” said IMD officials, commenting on the weather condition of the city. Experts added that post June 9, due to a trough or a feeble cyclonic circulation over North coast of Maharashtra near Mumbai, it will result in extended rainfall.

The independent weather experts also confirmed the possibility of ‘on and off light rain and thundershowers and isolated rainfall activity between June 8 and 10.’
