MNS worker attacked in Kandivali, motive unclear
Charkop police registered a case and initiated investigation following a MNS worker being attacked in Kandivali west in north Mumbai on Friday evening. A Charkop police official said that the victim has been identified as Arun Surve, local MNS leader, who stays in Appapada in Kurar village, Malad east.
On Friday, Mr Surve was on his way to Charkop to offer prayers in the Swami Samarth Math at around 4pm when suddenly, three unidentified bikers who had their faces covered, sneaked up from behind and attacked Mr Surve with a chopper on the backside of his head.
No sooner, they fled from the spot. Mr Surve is the Dindoshi division chief of MNS.
Mr Surve was taken to Shivam Hospital nearby and later, shifted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri west. Police sources said Mr Surve is under treatment and on road to recovery.
Sources said that earlier, the police suspected that the MNS-Shiv Sena rivalry was behind the incident but they now suspecting it to be a case of personal enmity. Mr Surve recorded his statement with the police on Saturday.
Police officials said the assailants had their faces covered with handkerchiefs so they have not been identified yet and police is checking CCTV footage of nearby areas to identify the number plate of the vehicle they used.
Officials are also checking if Mr Surve received any threat calls and investigation is underway in all directions while the motive behind the attack is unclear yet.
