With its agitation over the potholes issue, wherein two of its corporators allegedly publicly humiliated civic roads department’s chief engineer last week, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has purportedly managed to score over other opposition parties and take on the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP combine in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). MNS’ rival Shiv Sena has, however, dismissed their agitation as a “stunt”.
Soon after corporators Sandeep Deshpande and Santosh Dhuri were arrested by the police, the MNS to derive political mileage had put up posters, reading: “Yancha Gunha Kaay ” (what is their crime ), in Shivaji Park and other areas. Displayed under the title ‘Mahapalikecha Ajab Nyay’ (The Strange Justice of BMC), the posters questioned Mumbaikars about the corporators’ arrest.
“Whether it is correct to make arrogant and lethargic civic officials, who are drawing fat salaries, realise their duty or to punish people’s representatives for questioning them Should complaint be filed against civic officials, who are responsible for the poor roads or to arrest representatives for scolding them ” the posters read.
Terming MNS’ agitation a ‘stunt’, Sena group leader Trishna Vishwasrao, said, “With no issue left to rake up, they are doing politics over potholes.”
