Justifying the unruly behaviour of his party-workers with BMC chief engineer over the pothole row, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday dared the BMC engineers to resign en masse.
“Let all those responsible for potholes resign. There are thousands of engineers who are without jobs. They will get the benefit of a job in the BMC,” Mr Thackeray said.
On October 5, MNS party workers forcibly took BMC chief engineer (roads) Sanjay Darade to a spot near Sena Bhavan, Dadar and forced him to hold a placard that read: “I am responsible for the city’s potholes”. Following this incident, over 550 BMC engineers tendered their resignation to the BMC chief seeking stern action against MNS corporators – Sandeep Deshpande and Santosh Dhuri, Mr Darade even filed a complaint against Dhuri and Deshpande at the Shivaji Park police station.
The police registered an FIR against the two corporators. Firmly backing his corporators, Thackeray ruled out any possibility of dilution of their stand. “I support what my corporators did. There are potholes all over Mumbai and nobody is bothered,” Mr Thackeray said.
