The executive committee of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Monday gave its approval to appoint contractors for carrying out the civil construction of the 16.5-km Andheri East-Dahisar East Metro-7 corridor. Subsequently, the groundwork on the Metro-7 will take off before monsoon.

The MMRDA has also started preparing alternate traffic plans and have sent a few proposals to the traffic police as the work for the Metro-7 will involve working on the Western Express Highway (WEH) which according to MMRDA officials will be challenging.

The MMRDA is also considering carrying out major civil work during the night. “The initial ground-work will begin post monsoon and the actual work such as utility mapping and the work of piling will begin after the monsoons,” said U.P.S. Madan, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA.

The MMRDA in December 2015 had invited e-tenders for designing and constructing elevated viaduct and carrying out civil works for the 16 stations in three packages for which nine companies had shown interest in bidding for the civil works.

According to the approvals, Simplex Infrastructure Limited will design and construct metro stations of Andheri (east), Shankarwadi, JVLR junction, Mahanand and new Ashok Nagar at Rs 348.3 crore followed by J Kumar Infrastructure which will design and construct metro stations of Aarey, Dindoshi, Pathanwadi, Pushpa Park, Bandongri and Mahindra & Mahindra at Rs 360.21 crore. The NCC Limited will design and construct metro stations for Magathane, Devipada, National Park, Ovaripada and Dahisar (east) at Rs 249.86 crore.
