The Goregaon police caught a 12-year-old boy for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in a chawl area in Goregaon (west) on Friday. The boy has been booked under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso). The minor was produced before a special court on Saturday and has been sent to the Dongri correction home.
The victim lives in the same neighbourhood as the accused lives and they know each other well. According to the statement of the girl’s mother, her daughter was playing in the vicinity of their home. The boy spotted her and took her with him to a secluded spot at the pretext of playing with her.
Senior police inspector Sunil Wadke of Goregaon police station said, “The accused took her behind a water tank in the chawl and sexually assaulted her. Based on the complaint received from her mother we have registered a case.”
When the alleged victim’s mother, domestic help, came out of the house to check on the girl is fine, she could not find her. She then began to look for her started frantically and found her undergarment near the water tank. The girl was soon found nearby and she told her mother that the boy was touching her private parts. The mother immediately informed the police who promptly registered an FIR.
