Starting Monday, commuters using the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 corridor can, at Metro stations named as Ola hotspots, share Ola cabs that charge Rs 3 per km.
In the initial stages, the services will be available at Ghatkopar, Saki Naka and Western Express Highway (WEH) metro stations. It will be later expanded to cover all the 12 stations on the 11.40-km Metro-1 corridor.
This is a result of a tie up between the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has and private cab aggregator Ola Cabs. The tie up will see the Metro stations having pick up points named as ‘Ola Zones’ for hassle-free travel up to the final destination of commuters.
The service will be available during metro service hours at Rs 3 per km, which is substantially lower than Ola’s full-service rate. These fares will be comparable with other modes of transport even on busy routes from Metro like Saki Naka Metro Station to Powai, the MMOPL said in a statement issued on Friday.
Announcing the tie-up, a Mumbai Metro One official said, “We are mindful of the need of our commuters to have comfortable, quick and readily-available last-mile connectivity options. The tie-up with Ola is yet another effort on our part to fulfil this need.”
The MMOPL claims the tie-up was a result of a survey conducted by them in which the commuters had given thumbs-up for the provision of hot-spots of cab-hailing services at Metro stations.
Karan Singh Shekhawat, vice-president, operations at Ola, said, “Mass transit systems are the lifeline of Mumbai but the current solutions are mixed out. Ola is a popular choice for lakhs of Mumbaikars today.”
