In order to fast track its Metro project, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will appoint a consultant for the construction of 16.5 km long Dahisar (east)-Andheri (east) Metro-7 corridor. The MMRDA has floated tenders for the same.
Subsequently, earlier this week MMRDA floated tenders to appoint ‘Detail Design Consultants’ for the designing of the stations and designing of other civil works.
“The general consultants will oversee the construction work in totality till its commissioning and the design consultants will be appointed for designing the stations to avoid any variations in design,” said an MMRDA official.
The 16.5 km elevated Metro-7 corridor has 16 stations in total and the consultants will be appointed for 54 months from the time of appointment. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 6,208 crore and the MMRDA has set a deadline of 2019.
“The role of the general consultants will also be to review the updates of the construction of the project from time to time and also report about the quality of the work carried out by the contractors of the project,” added the MMRDA official.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was appointed as interim consultant for the Metro-7 work by the executive of MMRDA in October 2015. However, DMRC will now look after the 8.5-km-long Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor.
The state government is also planning to rope in DMRC for the construction of the DN Nagar-Mankhurd-Mandala Metro-2B corridor and Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor on turnkey basis.
“The detailed project report (DPR) for Metro-2B has been prepared and the MMRDA plans to approve the project in the upcoming meeting of the executive committee and has also got a nod from the cabinet. However, DPR for the Metro-4 project is expected to be out soon,” an MMRDA official added.
