Vinayak Mete, MLC and chief of Shiv Sangram organisation, met MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre on Monday seeking his support for Maratha reservation. He has urged all parties to support the issue and for that, he will also meet BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP chiefs on Tuesday. NCP legislator Mr Mete has been demanding reservation for his community since the last few years. On his demand in the Winter Session of the State Assembly in Nagpur last year, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had asked the Narayan Rane committee to give recommendations. The Rane committee conducted several public hearings on the issue of reservation for the Maratha community. Mr Mete had even met Mr Rane and attempted to convince him of the need for reservation. Mr Mete said, “I am not demanding reservation within the quota reserved for other backward classes (OBC). The state should offer separate reservation quota to the Maratha community. I have never demanded a share of the OBC quota.” He further said, “I want to bring unanimity within all political parties on the issue of Maratha reservation. So, I met Mr Thakre at Gandhi Bhavan. I had a good discussion with him. I asked him to clear the Congress’ stand on the issue.” According to Mr Mete, he will meet BJP state president Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and NCP state president Bhaskar Jadhav on Tuesday. He said, “Mr Thackeray and Mr Fadnavis have not yet fixed the appointment, but they will inform me in the morning.”
