Indian Coast Guard and the Navy rescued an 83m-long vessel with 14 Indian crew members onboard; the vessel had left Kandla port in Gujarat and was sailing towards Karwar in Karnataka.

Indian Coast Guard and the Navy rescued an 83m-long vessel with 14 Indian crew members onboard; the vessel had left Kandla port in Gujarat and was sailing towards Karwar in Karnataka.
Coast Guard sources said that at about 7.30 pm on June 8, merchant ship M.V. Infinity I, approximately 20 nautical miles (NM) off the Goa coast, reported water ingress and continuous listing (nautical term for tilting) to starboard (right side of the ship). The vessel reported that the list was increasing despite its de-watering efforts. By Thursday morning, the Navy and Coast Guard brought down the flooding and escorted the vessel to shore.
M.V. Infinity I was carrying approximately 1,750 tonne asphalt and had developed a crack in the hull and started taking in water. INS Trikhand, Coast Guard ships Amal and Shoor, and a tug from Goa were dispatched for assistance, while INS Kondul was placed on standby. Helicopters too were prepared for immediate evacuation if required. INS Trikhand with four personnel, including two officers and high-speed de-watering pumps reached the spot at around 9 pm. “Within six hours of continuous de-flooding operations in the dark hours, flooding was brought under control and the vessel achieved stabilised condition,” informed a Coast Guard official.
Later, the vessel weighed anchor by 4 am and was seen being escorted to Karwar by Coast Guard ships with a team of officials onboard even as the tanker was continuously engaged in de-flooding.
