Fed up with the xenophobia stirred up by the Raj Thackeray-led MNS against Pakistani artiste and the threat issued to the public and theatre owners over the screening of Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM), Justice Markandey Katju lambasted the MNS on Wednesday.
Mr Katju tweeted on Wednesday slamming the MNS saying: “I have a danda (stick) waiting for you. Why does MNS attack helpless people If you are brave, come to me. I have a danda waiting for you and it’s getting impatient. MNS people are goondas who have drunk the salt water of the Arabian Sea. I am an Allahabadi goonda, who has drunk the water of the Sangam.”
Mr Kajtu even suggested that people should file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against those who have threatened Pakistani artistes to leave India, in which he is willing to give his legal advice. It may be mentioned here that the MNS had threatened to bash up Pakistani artistes and those who support them. They have also opposed the release of ADHM and Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees, which stars Pakistani actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan respectively. Mr Katju has found a supporter in the form of former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who tweeted: “One MLA party, MNS, not learning their lessons. With threats of vandalism etc they are certain to be zero MLA party next elections.”
In a video released on Tuesday, Mr Johar had made an appeal to allow the release of his movie ADHM. Mr Johar had also stated that he would not work with “talent from the neighbouring country given the current circumstances”. However, the MNS has rubbished his video appeal and upped its ante. MNS Chitrapat Kamgar Sena president Ameya Khopkar remarked, “Karan woke up very late. This isn’t the time to say sorry. He had a change of heart. We didn’t.”
On Wednesday, a dozen MNS men protested against the release of ADHM outside the iconic Metro Cinema. They even handed a protest letter to the cinema owner.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police has assured adequate protection to cinema halls that plan to screen ADHM.
The Azad Maidan police on Wednesday detained 12 MNS party workers for allegedly sending a threat letter to all multiplexes asking them not to screen ADHM.
The police has taken preventive measures against them under 151(3) CrPC. The 12 activists have been sent to judicial custody for 15 days.
