Three separate incidents of people attempting suicide or threatening to carry out the drastic step at the chief minister’s office on Tuesday sent the police at Mantralaya into a tizzy.

Two men allegedly consumed poison. One of them wanted the government to help him overcome financial problems, while the other wanted the CM to look into his allegation of cheating in the SRA scheme. Both have been admitted to hospitals. In the third incident, a college student threatened to jump from the sixth floor of Mantralaya after officials refused to entertain his application for a scholarship despite directives from the CM.

Dilip More, a farmer from Paithan, Aurangabad had been visiting Mantralaya for quite some time. DCP Shantilal Bhamre confirmed that he consumed poison outside CM office because he was not getting audience with officials. Sources said that the CM has asked his officials to make an inquiry into the incident.

A Marine Drive police official said, “More wanted to meet the CM to request him to file an FIR in his brother’s alleged murder. Last month his brother committed suicide, but More said he was murdered by his fellow villagers and sought the registration of an FIR. He has been admitted to GT Hospital.”

In the second self-inflicted poisoning case, Dinesh Pandya, who had come to CM office with his complaint about cheating in an SRA scheme, informed officials that he had consumed poison, as he had no hope of getting justice. “Mr Pandya had approached the Bandra office of the SRA but he didn’t get any response after which he decided to meet the CM. However, he consumed poison before coming to Mantralaya. He has been admitted to St George Hospital,” said Popatrao Yadav, a senior police inspector.

In the third incident, student Hiralal Dhakne threatened to jump from the sixth floor of the building, where the CM’s office is situated. However, police posted at the CM’s office immediately apprehended him.
