Mankhurd police arrests man wanted in over 21 cases

The Mankhurd police on Tuesday night arrested a man who had been on the run for the past two years.

The Mankhurd police on Tuesday night arrested a man who had been on the run for the past two years. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Manikandan Akkutan alias Shambho, was wanted in more than 21 cases registered in Mumbai and various police teams had attempted to arrest him over the last two years.

According to officials, molestation and robbery cases were registered against Akkutan over the last few years. Mankhurd police station API Sushant Bangdare said, “Since he had been absconding, after his last half murder case in Mankhurd, officials had been keeping an eye on various areas to arrest him. In January, we learnt he was living in Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Our sources and officials would patrol near his house but they never saw him in the house.”

“On Tuesday morning we got a call from our source and he said Akkutan had entered the house. We immediately informed our seniors and planned a trap to arrest him. We informed the local police too and then laid the trap and arrested him. At the time Akkutan’s wife was in the house with him. For the past two years she was living there alone,” said Mr Bangdare.

A case was registered under various sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.
