The Govandi police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his 15-year-old daughter for three months.
The Govandi police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his 15-year-old daughter for three months. The incident came to light after the minor girl fled her home a few days ago and revealed information about her father’s assaults to her aunt.
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the police, the victim’s mother died two years ago and since then she had been staying with her father. They are residents of a slum in Rafik Nagar at Govandi area.
The man, who does odd jobs to earn a livelihood, had allegedly been sexually assaulting his minor daughter for the past three months.
“Two days ago, the man had approached us to lodge his minor daughter’s missing report. He complained that his daughter had left home hours ago and had not returned. We lodged a missing person’s report and begun an enquiry.
“However, soon the girl, accompanied by her aunt, visited the police station. The minor had left home and gone to her aunt’s place. She allegedly revealed to her aunt that her father had been sexually assaulting her for the last three months,” said an officer from Govandi police station.
“When she could not bear the assaults anymore, she approaced her aunt and disclosed everything to her. The aunt then brought the victim to us and narrated the incident,” said the officer.
He added that the minor revealed that her father had threatened to beat and kick her out of the house in case she spilled the beans about his crime to anybody.
After hearing the girl’s version, the police called her father for questioning. He was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping his daughter and produced in court, which remanded him to police custody.
The police is conducting further investigations and awaiting the victim’s medical reports.
