The Mahim police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly spiking a 27-year-old woman’s drink and raping her. The accused is a technician. The police said the incident occurred in Mahim two days ago.
The complainant had a fight with her husband over the phone and started crying, at which point the accused approached her on Friday. He showed her empathy and offered her juice, which she claimed was sedated.
“The lady went to Masjid Bunder for shopping when her husband called her and they had a fight over the phone over some personal issues. After which, the lady decided not to return home so she roamed around the city and reached Mahim station by taking a train from Dadar. However, she did not want to go home so she sat on platform benches and kept on crying,” said an official.
At some point, technician Abdul Shaikh sat beside her on the bench and started consoling her. He came to know she did not want to return home. “He then convinced her that there was a hotel belonging to his friend near Mahim station and she could stay there without paying a single rupee. He took her to the hotel, added some sedative in her water and when she fell unconscious, raped her, later fleeing from the place,” the official added.
Police said that the woman came to the police station the next day and narrated the entire incident. They checked all CCTV footage and arrested the accused from Andheri.
