Officials said the accused and the victim are residents of the same area, Suman Nagar in Ghatkopar east.
The deceased has been identified as Neeraj Ashok Singh (23). On the day of the incident, Neeraj was having a party along with his colleagues Vikas Dinkar Isave and Tejas near Indira Nagar Sundarbagh Lane at Ghatkopar. After a while, Neeraj realised he needed to charge his mobile and the trio were on their way to a mobile shop.
“They were on their way to the mobile shop when accused Kamran Siddqiue snatched Neeraj’s mobile, abused him and fled. Neeraj gave chase, got hold of Kamran and tried to take his mobile when the accused attacked Neeraj on his chest with a chopper he was carrying. He attacked Vikas too, while Tejas managed to flee from the spot,” said Ghatkopar police station SPI, Vyankat Patil.
“After the incident, Tejas informed Neeraj and Vikas family members about the incident and they took them to Rajawadi and KEM hospital. Neeraj was declared dead during treatment on Friday due to excessive bleeding. Vikas is recuperating and his condition is stated to be critical,” Mr Patil added.
Neeraj was jobless while Vikas is working in a private company. A case of murder and robbery has been registered against Siddique, who is absconding.
