The wife died on the way to hospital while the condition of the man is reportedly serious. The police has registered a case against him on the basis of the statement given by both the children under sections of assault, attempt to murder and murder.
A senior police official, confirming the incident, said, “As of now we are inquiring about the reason behind the assault.”
According to the police officials, Krishna Kadam (40) lived with his wife Kalpita (38), daughter Jai (10) and son Atharva (7) in the Manvelpada area of Virar (east). He was working in a company but lost the job and then started working as a vegetable vendor. His wife used to work as a nurse in Bhabha hospital.
The police said the incident took place Friday night at 10 pm Kadam’s in residence, where Krishna stabbed his wife first and then both his children. Later, he stabbed himself in an attempt to commit suicide, the police said. After hearing the screams of the victims, the neighbours rushed to the spot and took the family to Sanjeevani Hospital in the area, where the wife died during treatment. The children have survived with injuries and are undergoing treatment.
The locals informed the police officials that they had heard a heated exchange taking place at the Kadams’ home. In a fit of rage, he allegedly stabbed his wife Kalpita, the police said. Seeing her mother drenched in blood, their Jai approached her father and told him to stop hurting Kalpita.
So, Krishna stabbed Jai too. After this, he attacked his Atharva also, who started shouting for help. The neighbours heard the screams and rushed to the house which was locked from inside.
They then broke the door open and entered to find all four lying in a pool of blood and rushed them to the hospital, said the police. While Kalpita died of her injuries in the hospital, the condition of the children and father is reported to be serious.
