A 27-year-old man was arrested by the Bhandup police for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl on Friday.
The police said the accused identified as Vaibhav Shinde (27) lived in the same area where the victim lived and was unemployed.
On Friday evening around 6 pm, when the girl was playing outside her home with her friends, the accused allegedly lured her with an ice cream and took her away from home. He then took her behind a public toilet in the same slum area and allegedly raped her.
The accused, who is unmarried, lives with his sister, said the police.
“The accused first closed the minor’s mouth and sexually assaulted her for about an hour. After that he first left the girl at the spot; he later came back, picked her up from the same place and dropped her near her home from where we got a CCTV footage that shows him standing on the road side,” said a police official.
The mother of the victim was searching for her girl since 7 pm and she was just about to file a missing complaint at the police station when she saw her daughter crying near the staircase of a nearby building that didn’t even have lights. She then took the girl to the hospital and then registered a complaint against the accused at the Bhandup police station.
“The minor too described the accused and gave us his name. She also narrated to us what had happened. The accused was arrested this morning as he had fled the place. He has been remanded in police custody until May 17,”said a Bhandup police official.
