A 20-year-old canteen worker has been arrested for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl on the premises of her school in Dadar on Friday night.
A 20-year-old canteen worker has been arrested for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl on the premises of her school in Dadar on Friday night. The accused has been identified as Somnath Yadav, an Uttar Pradesh native. Yadav has been booked under the IPC Sections 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act.
According to officials from Shivaji Park police station, Yadav worked in the school canteen and also looked after the school hall.
On Friday, the school was holding its annual function and the girl, a class 5 student, missed her school bus after the event concluded. She then went to her class teacher, who later informed the principal. The principal called the parents of the girl, asking them to pick her up. Later, the class teacher told the victim to wait for her parents in the school attendant’s quarters before leaving.
According to police officials, the attendant was not present and his minor son — who was the only other person present there — left after a few minutes to attend his tuition classes. Later, the girl felt an urge to go for toilet and moved towards the second floor of the building. Yadav who stays in the hall, which is next to the girls’ toilet allegedly followed the girl after spotting her and sexually assaulted her.
At about 8 pm, the girl’s aunt reached the school and she was found bleeding in the lavatory. The girl identified Yadav as her assailant.
