Man held after lover’s body is found
The police on Friday arrested Dilip Sathlya (30) for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Anita Narmada (28), whose body was recovered from a forest in Vasai’s Chinchoti area the day before. Narmada, a Vasai resident, was missing since February 10.
Officials suspect that Narmada had been pressurising Sathlya to marry her, which prompted him to kill her out of irritation.
A police source informed The Asian Age that the police managed to nab Sathlya because they found a note in Narmada’s hand on which a cellphone number was written. When officials tracked the number, it was found to be Sathlya’s.
On Thursday, a few locals saw a body lying near the Royal Hotel in the forest of Chinchoti and the Valiv police was informed. Officials were able to identify the body after circulated a picture of it.
The police sources said Narmada was married, but had separated from her husband for the last few months and was in a relationship with Sathlya. She would use to ask him to marry her, but he avoided the subject. Later, feeling that he was being forced to marry, Sathlya decided to take her life, the sources said. “With the intention of killing her, he called her to the forest on February 10, where he strangulated her,” said an official.
