A sessions court on Monday awarded life sentence to 35-year-old Shivkumar Kamble for killing a canteen owner in April 2014 at NM Joshi Marg, Lower Parel.

The accused Kamble was convicted for killing the 50-year-old canteen owner Alka Thorwade. The incident occurred after Kamble had lunch and dinner at Alka’s canteen but did not pay her for the meals. After this, Alka refused entry to Kamble at her canteen. Infuriated, Kamble sought revenge and attacked her at her residence when she was alone. He stabbed Alka to death. Later, Kamble fled to Goa and was living incognito to evade detection.

The crime branch officials had arrested Kamble in the murder case after they noticed that he had suddenly vanished from the area after the woman’s murder. The officials who suspected him, went to Goa, nabbed and interrogated him, following which he accepted his crime. The police also found scratch marks on Kamble and found blood on one of his clothes.

Other evidence like parents of the victim identifying her clothes, the testimony of the co-worker of the lady who was running a canteen and the neighbours helped in the conviction. The prosecution had examined more than 20 witnesses in the case.

The sessions court bench explained to him the charges for which he has been found guilty and that he has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
