Man arrested for beating dog to death

The Tulinj police arrested a man for allegedly killing a stray dog in revenge after it bit his five-year-old son. The man ran after the dog with a stick and beat it to death and also injured two other dogs in the premises.

The arrested accused, Anurag Yadav, stays in a flat in Krishna Darshan Society in Moregaon, Nallasopara. Late on Thursday evening, while his son was playing in the society, a stray dog bit him. Yadav came to know about the incident and went downstairs armed with a stick. Upon seeing the dog, he ran after it and after catching up with it, he beat it severely. It died due to severe bleeding, said police naik Jaywant More of the Tulinj police station. He also injured two other dogs that ran to the rescue of the deceased canine, said Mr More.

After killing the dog, Yadav went away but alert neighbours reported the matter to the police. “We reached the spot and seized the carcass,” said Mr More.

Yadav was arrested under the relevant section of the IPC and also under the Animal Act. He was produced before the court on Saturday and released on bail. Meanwhile, Yadav’s son is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
