The Manikpur police of Vasai area has arrested a man who had allegedly kidnapped his son and taken him to Kolkata.
The Manikpur police of Vasai area has arrested a man who had allegedly kidnapped his son and taken him to Kolkata. The accused suspected that his wife was having an extra-marital affair and the child was not his. The 15-month-old was rescued from Kolkata by a police team. An aide of the accused has also been arrested.
The father, Mustafa Sheikh (35) and his aide Kurban Fazlu Miyan (30), were booked and presented to court on Thursday and they have been remanded in police custody and further investigation in the case is underway. The police is now trying to ascertain Sheikh’s motive behind taking the child to Kolkata and check if he was trying to sell the boy off.
The child’s mother, 31-year-old Sherifa Begam Mustafa Bano, had approached the Manikpur police on February 9 to register a complaint about her missing son and said that the father could be behind the child’s disappearance. The couple are residents of Naigaon.
Additional SP of Vasai Shrikrishna Kokate said, “We are interrogating the father to find out why he took the boy away to West Bengal.” The child has been returned to his mother.
