The accused has been identified as Deelip Rajput (33) while the complainant, a working woman, is a resident of Malad.
According to police sources, the complainant in her statement told the police that in December last year, she received a friendship request from Rajput on social networking site Facebook. Later, she befriended Rajput and both started meeting at a local coffee shop and eventually fell in love. Rajput promised to marry the complainant and fixed a date for the wedding in March.
During their courtship, Rajput showed off lavish flats and cars to the complaint to take her into the confidence and show he was rich.
Later, in February, Rajput demanded Rs 13 lakh from the complainant, saying he needed to arrange an event for which he needed money.
After borrowing money from her, he disappeared and despite several calls and SMSes she couldn’t reach him. So, she moved to the police station and filed a complaint, said police sources. The police is now trying to track the Facebook details of the accused to identify him.
