Malad society beats four youths for inviting female pals home

Four college students have lodged a police complaint against the chairperson and secretary of a Malad-based housing society where they were staying on rent.

Four college students have lodged a police complaint against the chairperson and secretary of a Malad-based housing society where they were staying on rent. The media students alleged that on September 25, society members beat them up as they were unhappy with female friends visiting them.

Despite having moved to the third floor flat of E Wing of Sahkar Housing Society on September 9 after completing all formalities, the teenage boys claimed that on few occasions, they had verbal arguments with the family staying below over noise emanating from their flat. And on September 25, three to four society members grabbed the boys and beat them up. Further, the boys were asked to vacate the flat.

The chairperson and secretary of Sahkar Housing Society remained unavailable for comment while two of the residents told this newspaper correspondent that they were out of Mumbai and were unaware of the incident. Similarly, committee member Shilpa too said that she had been out of the city and had returned only recently.

However, the landlord of the flat where these boys are staying on rent, Narayan Kabra, speaking to The Asian Age over phone from Delhi stated, “I had received complaints from society members that these boys jump in their flat and make noise and thus cause disturbance to other residents. I really don’t know what exactly happened on September 25. I just received a call from the society that the boys were ordered to vacate the flat and the following day, I deposited the rent and advance amount paid by the boys in their account.”

One of the boys, Himanshu Gautam, said, “Society members had issues with female friends visiting our flat. Many even had an issue with our male friends. On the day of the incident, a few female friends visited us for our college assignment.”
