The government, it said, did not have the ability to complete projects that had been announced previously. The Congress also alleged that the restructuring of loans had not been carried out even though it was announced last April.
On Wednesday, addressing the press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that after the Cabinet meeting in the Aurangabad, the government announced projects worth more than Rs 49,000 crore. The figure, which was announced by the government, is exaggerated, he claimed. “All the ministers of the Cabinet are lying constantly; hence lie detector tests should be conducted on them,” Mr Sawant said.
To substantiate his claims, Mr Sawant said that the government was making tall claims and providing false statistics to the people. “They are also playing with the feelings of the masses. The state Cabinet gave false information about restructuring crop loans to the farmers. They are misleading these poor farmers,” the Congress spokesperson said.
He claimed that the state Cabinet, on April 26, 2016 had decided to restructure crop loans of the years 2012-13 and 2013-14. It had taken the decision to restructure crop loans worth Rs 2,438.98 crore of 4,42,902 farmers in the state. It also decided to send a letter to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regarding the same, he added.
Mr Sawant said, “When I sought information on this under the Right to Information Act (RTI), I was informed that after one and half months, the government did not send the letter to the RBI for restructuring crop loans. The chief secretary of the state sent a letter to RBI governor on June 1, 2016 and the principal secretary wrote a letter to deputy governor of the RBI on June 2, 2016. But even after four months had passed and as the Kharif season about to ends, the RBI did not respond to the state government on it. Despite this, the Maharashtra government did not do any follow up with the RBI. Hence, this incident depicts how faulty these government decisions are. The common man does not benefit from such announcements.”
